Health Insurance 2025 in GA

Updated:
October 10, 2024

It is hard to believe, but it is already middle of October and time for Open enrollment for Medicare and Obamacare.

This is the time where individuals can either enroll into new health plans or make changes to their existing plans.

Medicare Open Enrollment will go from Oct 15th thru Dec 7th.

Obamacare Open Enrollment will go from Nov 1 thru Jan 15th.

And as always, there are many changes every year. Some of the changes for 2025 are as follows.

  • Rate Changes: Your health insurance rates can change every year based on your age, medical inflation as well as the adjustment to your Obamacare tax credits, which are based on your estimated household incomes.
  • Plan Changes: Your health plans also can vary from year to year. Many times it is a minor change, other times it can be pretty significant. For example, there are some health insurance companies that are discontinuing their health plans at the end of the year. If you have received a notice of plan termination, you should contact your agent right away and look at some of your options.
  • Rules Changes: Healthcare laws and rules can also change from time to time. For example, the rule for short term medical plans changed earlier this year. Now you can only have a short term medical plan for 3-4 months. Whereas, we used to be able to take a short term medical plan for 12 months. This was an excellent option for people who were not eligible for the Obamacare tax credits and in good health.
  • Company Changes: Health insurance companies can also decide to either enter new markets or leave certain markets. Their decisions can either give you new opportunities for new plans or force you to choose a new company with other plans.

We believe it is better for most people to buy their health insurance from individual brokers because a good broker can help you find a health plan that is right for you. There are hundreds of health plans and it can very confusing for most people to pick the right one. Since there are no discounts in the health insurance industry for going direct to an insurance company, the rate you will pay with a broker will be the same as if you went direct. But with some expert guidance.

But be careful! Not all brokers are alike. You should look for a broker who represent many different companies and also has the experience to recommend the right strategy for your situation. Be careful when shopping for health insurance online. Usually on the 1st page of google or other websites are advertisers or lead generation companies. If you have ever added your name and number to any of those sites, you may have found your phone ringing off the hook!

Your plan selection should be based on these 3 things.

  1. Rates: Your premiums tend to be one of the most important criteria for affordability. But it should not be the only criteria.
  2. Benefits: Sometimes you get what you pay for and depending upon how much you anticipate the use of your benefits, you should select your health plan accordingly.
  3. Network of Doctors and Hospitals: This is very crucial item to always keep in mind because all insurance companies have a network that you have to stay in and if you go outside of the network, you may find your health plan will not cover your services. Your doctor can also choose to be added or drop out of certain networks and if he/she has dropped out, you may not be able to go to them for the coming year. And when open enrollment is closed, it may not be possible to make any plan changes unless you have a qualifying special enrollment.
